In the name of Allah, the All-Compassionate, the All-Merciful.

Heyoooo there! Hehehe.

Miss me much? Of course you do! *beams*

Okay, now that I’m done with my sweet pleasantries, time to get down with some business.

So basically, I finally cleaned my two shelves in my room. Le fiancé can testify to that, I sent him photos. So that’s one agenda done.

I have also completed my SMC paperwork and reviewed the online activity. Danial pretty much set the meeting agenda already. So that’s four.

A. Clean the two central fixtures

B1. Type out previous SMC’s meeting minutes

B2. Review SMC’s online activity

B3. Set SMC’s meeting agenda

C. Set setlist for Ballads By The Beach by Rubber Bandits

D. Pick up a book from my room to read

So I’m left with C and D to fulfill. I wanted to complete C yesterday but le fiancé was too out of it to discuss with me. And then I was pretty much demotivated to do any form of reading. Toinks.

So here is the agenda for today!

A. Complete and discuss evaluation at work today.

B1. Continue working on Halloween t-shirt ideas for SMC.

B2. Promote SMC to get more likes on FB.

B3. Check out Duke’s Bazaar and make arrangements accordingly.

C. Set setlist for Ballads By The Beach by Rubber Bandits.

D. Pick up a book from my room to read.

I was trying to make a menacing-looking t-shirt but apparently, I ended up making a really cute one that even le fiancé gushed over. Oopsies.

In any case, here we go!

I Write: Stuck At Work (Original Lyrical Idea)

Written in 2016.

I’m stuck at work again
I’ve been at it since 8am
Working hard like a man
Wondering how my life turned out like this

Mama told me forget romance
You better work, baby, earn your keep
Cos if you don’t, you’ll be damned
When he leaves you, he leaves you with nothing

Sacrifice my sleep
These days I’m barely counting sheep
All the meals I had to skip
Gotta do what must be done
Just to earn my keep

In the name of Allah, the All-Compassionate, the All-Merciful.

I created a list of the six items I wanted to do yesterday.

But I managed to do none of those.

Nope it ain’t your typical “not enough time” excuse.

I decided to accompany my colleague, Reena, to Changi Airport on a whim. She was heading back to her kampung via flight and even brought her luggage with her to work.

And I thought, why not send her off since I was having my period so I don’t have to worry about praying.

And so there we were two girls squeezing into the fully-packed MRT with a thankfully small luggage. By right we shouldn’t be able to get in but me being me, I just shoved the fellas in front of me and grabbed hold of her luggage and just squeezed in as much as I could so she could have room to get in as well.

Mission was successful!

She thought her flight was at 8.30pm but it turned out that it was at 9.30pm. So that meant we had enough time for dinner together, hooray!

And to think that earlier during the day, we had lunch outside of our workplace together! It was definitely meant to be! Hehe.

I did a lot of heavy lifting as well during work and almost fell down the escalator trying to bring down a heavy container of leggings pants.

And the gantry doors of the mrt ez-link tap-in/out closed in hard on me. Ouchies.

I spent a good deal of time sharing with le fiance about my eventful day and fell asleep on the bed after washing my uniform.

I woke up at 6 plus but was too knackered to move before being knocked out cold again until 8am.

Good thing I decided to get my ass off by then because I had completely forgotten to hang my uniform dry last night. >.<

So here I am in the MRT with thankfully dry and ironed clothes and I even had time to pack food to bring to work.

Alhamdulillah for that.

My only frustration right now is that I left the house at 11am but my bus only arrived at 11.13am. And now I’m standing in the MRT like since when so many people travel at this hour? Ugh. And it had to be the kind with no seats.

Like why make me stand a long way from Tampines to City Hall when I will be standing throughout my working hours.

So based on that, today will be an okay day, I feel. Will be a few hiccups here and there but as long as I am patient, it will be a manageable day.

So hopefully tonight I can get started on my to-do list. Plus I’m working at 1.30pm tomorrow instead of 12.30pm. So I’m good.

I hope I won’t be the main cashier today. Cashier support is fine by me but I don’t feel up to being the main cashier today. Although I must admit that the nice thing about cashiering duties is that time flies by like nobody’s business. Hahahaha!

We’ll see what I get today. Hopefully a nice schedule.

Anyway, you guys, have a great day ahead.

I Read: Growth or Bust!: Proven Turnaround Strategies to Grow Your Business — Game-Changing Secrets From A Leading Corporate Strategist by Mark Faust

In the name of Allah, the All-Compassionate, the All-Merciful.

I’m just going to quickly write some notes from my reading of the book here.

First attribute of a great leader: The ability to get things done.

If a company is to succeed, you and everyone in your charge must come to work daily with an obsessive focus on bringing those aspirations to ground, on making a vision reality. (Santo J. Costa, 2011)

Marketing is: ‘The management process that profitably identifirs, anticipates, and satisfies what the customer values. Seeing the business from the customer’s point of view. This focus on what the customer values must permeate all areas of the enterprise.’ (Mark Faust, 2011)

Innovation is: ‘Change that creates a new dimension of performance.’ (Faust, 2011)

7 parts of building an innovation culture:

  1. Prioritise from the top down: Innovation is a top priority.
  2. Clarify your innovation values: Build innovation in company values, growth objectives, mission, and vision.
  3. Get all hands on deck: Management must require a minimum number of ideas to be turned in from every employee.
  4. Initially focus on quantity vs. quality: Research consistently proves that a quantity of ideas will beget better-quality ideas in the end.
  5. Consistently communicate implementation and successes: Always share implementation of ideas and feedback on the successes of those. implementations or lackthereof.
  6. Give specific and universal rewards: Individuals who recommend ideas that have significant impact to profits should be given significant rewards.
  7. Make innovation a Möbius strip: Innovation must be an ongoing process at sustainable levels.

7 innovation skills:

  1. Connecting the unconnected: The ability to connect two unconnected issues for a new solution or dynamic.
  2. Respectfully challenging the status quo: Great innovations come from someone asking a great question.
  3. Flipping: Taking a positiob or issue and flipping it (or your conversation or consideration about it) to the opposite view.
  4. Embracing constraints: Great questions create nonexistent constraints. False constraints challenge one’s mind to think of alternatives that it otherwise would not.
  5. Studying customers like a scientist: Genchi genbutsu, which means “going to the spot and seeing for yourself”.
  6. Experimenting: Share experiments, lessons learned, failures, and successes.
  7. Networking: “The insights required to solve many of our most challengig problems come from outside our industry and scientific field. We must aggressively and proudly incorporate into our work, findings, and advances which were not invented here.”

SMART objectives are:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Accountable
  • Realistically challenging
  • Timed

Focus on quarter-by-quarter progress and realignment: keeping perspectives with the seasons.

Assess your customers’ impressions:

  • How satisfied are they with your service?
  • How does your service impression compare with the competition’s service impression?
  • Where are your service strengths and improvement opportunities?
  • What will it take to improve the service impressions you are making, and what is the value of that improved service to the customer?

What makes the best impressions on your customers:

  • Prompt response to the first phone call
  • Thoroughness in communication
  • Frequency of communication
  • Service promises and commitments
  • Accessibility to the top

Blocking off Focus Hours on your calendar for strategic non-urgent growth and turnaround work ensures that more non-urgent high-priority work gets done. Trear these hours like you have clocked into the production line to ensure zero interruptions. Strstegic plans become useless unless the required work hits someone’s calendar or to-do list. (Faust, 2011)

Using priority management to accomplish the turnaround strategy: Knowing our ‘A’s and ‘B’s and 1-2-3s — Create a list of only six items a day, to prioritise it, and to work through it in priority every day.

Ask, don’t tell to get more growth (Socratic Stretch). Because people tend to support that which they help you to create, you will get more buy-in by geting your team to set the targets rather than you telling them what you think they should be. Socratically sell your team; don’t tell your team the potential. (Faust, 2011)

The challenge you may be facing in managing a team of diverse talent, experience, and confidence is that you can’t be sure whom on your team succeeds unintentionally, and who is truly achieving on their intent. (Faust, 2011)

Stretch 100: Achieving three-year objectives within 100 days instead. However, it is okay for the team to fail in achieving them. At the same time, if achieved, the team is not expected to replicate the same result in the next cycle.

What matters to the top leader:

  • The priority of significant growth and how everyone can contribute to accelerating the company’s progress toward aggressive growth goals.
  • The power, influence, and importance of the sales team’s efforts and input regarding bringing on larer and higher-quality customers, and how sales can contribute in other ways that will help to grow profits and revenues.
  • That his door is always open for anyone who has important insights on how we could grow sales.
  • That she is eager to become personally involved in helping to close large deals or speak to other C-level executives with prospective new business, in phone calls, meetings, or whatever she can reasonably contribute in the effort to grow sales.
  • That sales is as critical a function of the company as any other part of the company.

Best practices of top-echelon executives:

  • Going on key account calls and priority selling opportunities.
  • Being involved in recognising and delivering incentives with the sales team.
  • Listening to the sales team for input on how to improve issues with the company and within the selling process and sales support.

A look at the leader: Five impediments to turnaround and growth:-

  1. Pride
  2. Abusive relationships
  3. Gossiping
  4. Greed
  5. Any of the five dysfunctions in the principle of authority:

i. Lack of clear authority structure.

ii. Lack of respect for the chain of command.

iii. The inability to communicate up the ladder without fear of retribution.

iv. The lack of checks and balances.

v. Megalomania and rebellion.

There is no virtue in leadership as important to accelerated growth and turnaround as that of humility. (Faust, 2011)

The call of the leader: You have a responsibility to the families that depend on your company. Carpe diem.

And Allah is Al-Hasib, the Reckoner. -MM

I Romance: Love Letter to Beedin #1

12 September 2017

Hi, Bee!

Do you know how much I’m missing you right now? It’s so terrible! All I want to do right now is to talk to you but you’re unwell and you have a second-round job interview tomorrow at 11am…so all I can do is abstain myself from disturbing you on your cell. *cries*

Today marks the day we have known each other for a year and four months! Also, it’s our seventh month being engaged. And next week, it will be our tenth month of being in a relationship.

Feels crazy when I think about how we feel like we’ve known each other for 10 years already. Hehehe. Feels like we’ve been through 10 couple fights but amazingly, after each one, I always feel 10 times closer to you.

It’s also crazy to think that we’ve never been on a movie date. Would love to go on one with you! I want to watch that new Jackie Chan film that is coming out in October. Not sure about the release date in Singapore but by then, I’m sure we can spend some money on it.

Ooh, can’t wait, can’t wait! A litte pow wow ke pow action movie might do our heads some good!

Also, here’s a selfish thought: I truly wish you get the job and can bring home the vehicle, with the expenses that come with it fully covered by the company. It will be just like those times back then when you could pick me up from home, paktor, and send me home. Cars are too mainstream anyway. Being in a van with you has grown on me. So many memories! Hehehe. I’m sure you know which one I’m giggling most about!

I hope all will be clear and true tomorrow so we can both get on with achieving our goals together.

I pray that after tonight, you won’t have anymore medical setbacks so you can live and work peacefully without a worry.

I’m starting to count down to our wedding date. Suddenly it is September already, after all! Then it will be October, November, and December. Just a few months away from the end of 2017. Then it is just 5 months and less to our wedding.

And then you will never be physically alone again! Baeda will forever be by your side to terrorise you with her hunger comas. Muahahaha! Cook for me and feed me or else! Hehehe.

And you know what’s crazy too? The fact that slightly more than a year ago, we were mere strangers. You and I both unaware of each other’s presence. Yet, when we were united by His will, it was as though we have always known each other all along.

I am always so grateful to Him for bringing you into my life. Can’t wait for the day when I can just roll over to my side whenever I miss you.

Love always,

Your beautiful Bae. ❤

In the name of Allah, the All-Compassionate, the All-Merciful.

I’m still alive. I’m just exhausted. Today is the fourth consecutive day of working so I’m absolutely knackered. Tomorrow is my off day, yay! I absolutely need the rest.

Gosh, I hope I can keep up today. I made a lot of mistakes the day before yesterday. However, I feel I performed better yesterday. So I want to keep that up.

Yesterday, I was assigned to do announcements. Announcements are done in the alteration room. The alteration aunty was around when I made my announcements and I received glowing praises from her about my announcements. Hahaha! So sweet of her. I told her I was still very nervous as it was only the third or fourth time of me doing it. When another colleague came in, the aunty jokingly said to him that I sounded better than him. Omo! He agreed with her. Double omo!

I just want to do my very best in what I do so I hope I will continue to progress in my work performance. People at work have been telling me that I am a good colleague and friend.

I guess I have not been believing in that and perhaps I should start believing in that no matter how life threatens to take that away from me.

Mistakes happen. Accept responsibility. Ask for forgiveness. Forgive others. And keep going.

And Allah is Al-Muqit, the Nourisher. – MM

I Write: Sitting (Original Lyrical Idea)

Are these streets I roam at

Are these faces I stare at

Are these statements I get thrown at

Are these people who get bombed at

So I sit here

As I sit here

Made to awaken

By the hatred

I cannot resolve it while I’m sitting

So I sit here

As I sit here

Left to wonder

Who has the power

I cannot solve it while I’m sitting

Are these memories

Are these pictures

Are these tastes of agony

Are these fights for something small

So I sit here

As I sit here

Made to awaken

By the hatred

I cannot resolve it while I’m sitting

So I sit here

As I sit here

Left to wonder

Who has the power

I cannot solve it while I’m sitting

In the name of Allah, the All-Compassionate, the All-Merciful.

I finally got done with a burden that has been hovering over me for the past few months. Yay!

However, that meant I’m left with only a $100 to spare. Gyabon.

So now, with my end of September pay, I will start settling my debts.

I decided to start with the nominal amounts first and then work my way up to settle more!

I owe my friend, K, $50.
I owe my friend, N, $100.
I owe IRAS for my income tax $208.13 due 6/10/17 after my request for an extension.
I owe my brother, Hakim, $250 in phone bills as at 3/9/17.
I owe my mum, Umi, $600 as at 3/9/17.
I owe Lagun Sari $3955 as at 2/9/17. Next payment of $1977.50 is due in February 2018. I need to set aside money for this starting from December 2017 latest.
I owe my education benefactor, W, $4300 as at 23/4/17.
I owe HDB $ 107,382.03 as at 30/8/17.

I still need money for wedding solemnisation and photography + videography package. Also SMC stuff.

Not to forget my Starhub bill for the home internet at $49.90 per month.
